Shipping HHGs into South Africa.

Immigrant:
You must be present in South Africa before customs clearance can take place.

Household goods can be imported duty free as long as you have had them in your possession for more than 6 months.

Customs will want to check your original passport to confirm your residence status. If you have a visitors permit (green stickers) customs will request the original letter of acceptance of the Application for Permanent Residence issued by the Department  of Home Affairs, should this be the case, customs might request that you lodge a provisional payment to cover VAT based upon the declared value, pending proof of permanent residence having be granted. This will then be refunded.

Returning South African Citizen
You must be present in South Africa before customs clearance can take place

Household goods can be imported duty free as long as you have had them in your possession for more than 6 months.

Customs will want to check your original passport to verify the exit and returning stamp.

If you are a frequent traveller an affidavit is required to explain to customs why you have been in and out of South Africa during the last 6 months.

Shipping vehicles in South Africa

Immigrant
One vehicle per family. Duty and VAT free providing the vehicle has been registered, owned and used for a period of not less than 12 months. Proof of permanent residence status in South Africa. Foreign passports that do not have a permanent residence stamp will not be granted a duty free entry. Motor vehicle will be stopped for a customs examination

Must obtain a letter of authority from the South African Bureau of standards in Pretoria and an import permit from the Department of Trade & industry in Pretoria before we can ship your vehicle.

Returning South African
One vehicle per family. Duty and VAT free providing the vehicle has been registered, owned and used for a period of not less than 12 months. You will also have to provide proof that you officially immigrated from SA and that you obtained residence status in your country of destination. You must also provide proof that you officially gave up your new residence status in order to return to SA. Motor vehicles will be stopped for a customs examination

Your vehicle must be steamed cleaned and free of any soil, dirt or bugs.
